TONI BENAGES
Toni Benages-Gallard (@tonibenages) and Ricard Martín Cortada are the authors of L’Altre Empordà (Editorial Finestres), a graphic novel that combines folk horror, picaresque fiction, sentimental memories of the 1990s and magical costumbrismo. Set in an Empordà far removed from the Costa Brava’s tourist image, the story follows Berta and Marc, two teenagers who, after an involuntary ritual on the night of Sant Joan, open a rift to hell and venture into a territory populated by decaying settings, a witch doctor who looks like an insurance salesman, and the ghosts of Josep Pla and Salvador Dalí.
Toni Benages is a comic artist and comics communicator. His works include Les extraordinàries aventures de Francesc Pujols (Males Herbes, 2015), El cercle de Loplop (Males Herbes, 2017), with Sebastià Roig, La joia de viure (Males Herbes, 2017), and Llibre de cavalleries (Empúries, 2020), with Julià Guillamon.
With L’Altre Empordà, the two authors recover the memory of a territory and a generation from before social media and mass tourism, creating a supernatural story that moves between humour, horror and a costumbrist portrait of everyday life.
They will be signing on Saturday, October 10 at 4:30 pm
