RAFATER

Rafael Teruel (@rafater_official) is an art director, concept artist, and freelance illustrator born in Salt in 1978. Specialising in fantasy, science fiction, and digital entertainment, he has more than twenty years of professional experience and is one of the Catalan artists with the strongest international presence in the fields of concept art and illustration for video games, trading card games, and fictional universes.

He studied Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona (UB) and completed a Master's degree in Digital Art at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), developing a career focused on digital art from the outset. He has worked for some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, including Wizards of the Coast, illustrating cards for Magic: The Gathering; Games Workshop, creating artwork for the Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar universes; Marvel, Riot Games (League of Legends), NetEase, Applibot, Ateam, Norma Editorial, and Ballistic Publishing, among many others. He has also contributed to video game, film, advertising, and other audiovisual projects.

He is the author of the artbooks EROS. The Sexiest Art of Rafater (2013) and Nightmare Dark Gods (2014), two volumes showcasing his visual universe, characterised by a combination of dark fantasy, science fiction, steampunk, heavy metal, pin-up aesthetics, and influences from comics and video games.

Alongside his work as a freelance illustrator, he teaches at schools specialising in digital art and concept art, sharing his experience with new generations of artists.
