JAIME MARTIN

Jaime Martin (Hospitalet de Llobregat, 1966) is a comic artist and illustrator. He began his professional career in 1985 working for humour magazines and, from 1987 onwards, became a regular contributor to El Víbora, where he developed a body of work characterised by costumbrismo and autobiography. In 1990, he received the Newcomer Award at the Barcelona International Comics Fair for Sangre de barrio, one of the most notable works from this early period.

Since the mid-2000s, he has developed much of his career in the Franco-Belgian market, mainly with publisher Dupuis. With scripts by Wander Antunes, he published Lo que el viento trae (2007) and Todo el polvo del camino (2010), before embarking on a period marked by autobiographical work. The trilogy comprising Las guerras silenciosas (2014), Jamás tendré 20 años (2016) and Siempre tendremos 20 años (2020) respectively explores his father’s experience during military service in Ifni, his grandparents’ lives during the Spanish Civil War and Franco dictatorship, and the memories of his own generation during the 1980s.

Jamás tendré 20 años won the Best Work by a Spanish Author award at the Barcelona Comics Fair in 2017, while Siempre tendremos 20 años received the same award at Cómic Barcelona in 2021. In 2025, he was awarded the Villanúa Rural Noir Prize and the 2024 Best National Work award at SPLASH Sagunt for Un oscuro manto, his most recent work.

At Girocòmic, he will present the new edition of Sangre de barrio, published by Norma Editorial, a work portraying Barcelona’s outer districts in the 1980s which, more than thirty years after its original publication, remains highly relevant.
