HORACIO ALTUNA

Horacio Altuna (Argentina, 1941) is a comic artist and writer. He began his professional career in 1965 and during the 1960s and 1970s worked for various Argentine publishers and magazines, as well as for the British and North American markets. In 1975, he began one of his most notable collaborations with Carlos Trillo, El Loco Chávez, a daily comic strip published in the newspaper Clarín until 1987. Together with Trillo, he also created works such as Las puertitas del señor López, Charlie Moon, Merdichesky, El último recreo and Tragaperras.

In 1982, he settled in Sitges and began a new stage of his career linked to Spanish adult comics. For magazines such as 1984, Comix Internacional and Zona 84, he published self-written works including Ficcionario, Chances, Time Out and Imaginario, characterised by science fiction, social satire and eroticism. He also developed an extensive career in erotic comics, with stories published in Playboy and works such as Hot L.A., Gato and Voyeur.

At the same time, he created several humour strips, including El Nene Montanaro, published in Clarín, and Familia Tipo, published in El Periódico de Catalunya. Throughout his career, he has received numerous awards, including the Yellow Kid Award in Lucca and the Grand Prize of the Barcelona International Comics Fair in 2004. He also served as president of the Associació Professional d’Il·lustradors de Catalunya from 2005 to 2011.
